Steelhead and Salmon dam counts
Little Salmon River (Stream Flows at Riggins)
Closed!
Lower Salmon River (Stream Flows at Whitebird )
Closed here too.
Upper Salmon River
(
Stream Flows at Salmon)
The only river stretches left open are from the city of Salmon to Stanley with some exceptions along the way. The best fishing is right in town, but each and every day fish are moving upstream and the fishing should continue to improve up river as time goes on. Also open is the South Fork of the Salmon starting near Warm Lake. Anglers on the South Fork are starting to catch a few fish, but mostly in the lower stretches. Most anglers are drifting bait or jigs, but a simple piece of yarn will also catch a lot of fish. I've even caught some nice fish with a red and white Mepps spinner. It's mostly a matter of getting it in front of them.
Clearwater River (Stream Flows at Orofino)
Closed.
South Fork of the Clearwater River (Stream Flows at Stites)
Closed.
South Fork of the Salmon River (East of Cascade) (Stream Flows near Krassel Ranger Station)
There are a few fish being caught, but the season won't last long so get your buns up here!
Here is my ongoing personal note: "It seems every year we are lucky enough to get a chance to fish for such great fish, someone continues to come along to spoil it! If you're one of the many that leave your crap along the banks, in the campgrounds and down the road, why don't you just go live in the dump, and save yourself the trouble, or better yet save those of us who appreciate what we have in Idaho, the trouble of having to pick up after your sorry - ARRRS' :) Thanks"
Hells Canyon on the Snake River (
Stream Flows below Hells Canyon Dam)
Closed.
